#PBA2016 Govs’ Cup Roundup: July 17-20, 2016

The 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup continued to heat up this past week with wins from San Miguel Beer, Meralco, Mahindra, and TNT Ka Tropa.

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over PHOENIX FUEL MASTERS, 124-113
Box Scores. 

The San Miguel Beermen cruised to victory over the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 124-113, in a high-scoring PBA Governors’ Cup clash on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Arizona Reid posted 41 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks while June Mar Fajardo added 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Beermen.


Alex Cabagnot added 20 points, including three three-pointers and Marcio Lassiter added 12 markers in the game.

Phoenix was paced by 28 points from Marcus Simmons, while Norbert Torres added 19.

Marcus Simmons (PHX) - 28pts, 11rebs, 2asts, 2 triples.

MERALCO BOLTS over ALASKA ACES, 100-96
Box Scores. 

The Meralco Bolts survived a late flurry from the resilient Alaska Aces to win, 100-96, and remain unbeaten in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Meralco import Allen Durham finished with 36 points, 15 rebounds and six assists while Chris Newsome added 19 points for the Bolts, who are now 2-0.

Jared Dillinger added 13 points, while Reynel Hugnatan scored 11.

Alaska, which was missing star forward Calvin Abueva in the game, was led by import LaDontae Henton, who posted 33 points and 12 rebounds.

MAHINDRA ENFORCERS over GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER, 108-98
Box Scores. 

The Mahindra Enforcer remained undefeated in two games after defeating GlobalPort, 108-98, in the Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup on Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Mahindra is now 2-0 in the current conference while GlobalPort dropped down to 0-2.

James White led the Enforcer with 28 points, 20 rebounds and four blocks while Aldrech Ramos chipped in with 16 points, including two three-pointers in the fourth quarter.

LA Revilla added 11 points and Paolo Taha had 10.

TNT KA TROPA over RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO-PAINTERS, 101-98
Box Scores. 

The TNT KaTropa fell into a big hole in the fourth quarter but came alive at just the right time as they finished the game on an 11-0 run that gave them a 101-98 victory over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the 2016 Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup on Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Jayson Castro led the way with 19 points and 10 assists while imports Mario Little and Michael Madanly both played key roles as well.

Little had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds while Madanly scored 17 points – most of those in a big fourth quarter – to help TNT notch the victory.

Dior Lowhorn led Rain or Shine with 20 points and 10 rebounds while JR Quinahan chipped in with 16.
