#PBA2016 Commish Cup Roundup: March 9, 2016

A couple of streaks ended in tonights 2016 PBA Commissioner’s Cup action. The Phoenix Fuel Masters put an end to their losing streak by beating Mahindra in the first game, while the Alaska Aces halted Ginebra’s winning run in the nightcap.

PHOENIX FUEL MASTERS over MAHINDRA ENFORCERS, 114-99

The Phoenix Fuel Masters ended a three-game losing streak with a decisive win over Mahindra, 114-99, in the Oppo PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.


Import Kevin Pinkney had 23 points and 9 rebounds, while RR Garcia had 22 markers. Willie Wilson also had a strong performance, scoring 21 points on 10-for-13 shooting, alongside 10 boards, and 5 assists.





It was Phoenix’s first win since beating NLEX in its conference opener. They then dropped three consecutive games to Meralco, Tropang TNT and Alaska before finally breaking through in this one.

The Fuel Masters improved to 2-3, while the Enforcers dropped to 3-3.

Import Augustus Gilchrist had 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead Mahindra. KG Canaleta added 18 points, 9 boards, and 5 assists.

ALASKA ACES over BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS, 86-80

Both Alaska and Barangay Ginebra entered their 2016 Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup clash on three-game winning streaks, but it was only the Aces’ run that was left standing following an 86-80 victory over the Kings on Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Alaska (4-1) has now won four consecutive games, while Ginebra dropped down to 3-3 after seeing its own streak snapped.

Import Shane Edwards had 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists to pace Alaska, while Calvin Abueva also came up big with 17 points and 9 boards.

RJ Jazul finished with 16 points, including several crucial points in the endgame, while Sonny Thoss chipped in with 10.

On the other end, Greg Slaughter scored 28 points to lead Ginebra on top of 10 rebounds and 10/14 FG shooting. Import Othyus Jeffers tallied 21 markers, 24 boards, and 4 dimes in a losing cause.
