#PBA2016 Commish Cup Roundup: March 6, 2016

#UpsetSunday took over the 2016 PHL Cup as Blackwater pulled the rug from under GlobalPort and the Star Hotshots frustrated Tropang TNT. The Elite broke their slump by beating the Batang Pier even as Allein Maliksi dropped a big game against the Texters.

BLACKWATER ELITE over GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER, 115-103
Box Scores. 

The Blackwater Elite leaned on impressive performances from import MJ Rhett and Mike Cortez as they trounced the GlobalPort Batang Pier, 115-103, in OPPO PBA Commissioner’s Cup action Sunday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Rhett scored 30 points and 13 rebounds to bounce back from a sub-par showing in a loss last timeout.


Veteran Cortez also turned back the hands of time, collecting 22 points and 7 assists to lead Blackwater (3-3), which snapped a two-game skid.






The Elite also enjoyed superb showings from rookie Arthur Dela Cruz (16 points, 4 steals), Reil Cervantes (13 points), and Carlo Lastimosa (12 points).

Import Calvin Warner scored 26 points and 22 rebounds, while Romeo finished with 14 for GlobalPort (2-4), which lost its third straight game.

STAR HOTSHOTS over TROPANG TNT, 96-88
Box Scores. 

Allein Maliksi waxed hot from the rainbow country, making all of his six triples including a crucial one down the stretch to lift the Star Hotshots to a 96-88 victory over Tropang TNT in the OPPO PBA Commissioner’s Cup Sunday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Maliksi tallied a career-high 29 points, 18 of which came in the second quarter, where he almost single-handedly erased the Hotshots’ 18-point deficit.






With the win, the Hotshots slightly moved up in the team standings, tying TNT and GlobalPort for the ninth to 11th places with identical 2-4 slates.

KBL veteran Ricardo Ratliffe, playing in his first game for Star as a temporary replacement to Denzel Bowles who is on leave of absence, scored 23 points and 13 boards in his league debut.

Gilas Pilipinas star playmaker Jayson Castro led the way for TNT with 18 points.
