MERALCO BOLTS over BLACKWATER ELITE, 106-83
Box Scores.

The Meralco Bolts snapped a two-game losing streak after pouncing on the Blackwater Elite, 106-83, in OPPO PBA Commissioner’s Cup action Friday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Bolts, who less than 24 hours ago parted ways with veteran gunner Gary David after having a rift with the coaching staff, finally broke a slump that spoiled their 5-0 start to the tournament.

Import Arinze Onuaku piled up 27 points and 17 boards to lead Meralco (6-2) that is back on top of the team standings.

Rookie guard Baser Amer also chipped in 15 points and made all four of his triples while also leading a first quarter run that broke the game wide open for Meralco. Former Ateneo star Ryan Buenafe also did well, dropping 11 markers off the bench.

The Elite (3-5), who bowed for the second straight game, were led by Carlo Lastimosa, who finished with 16 points, and Mike Cortez, who had 15.

However, they got little help from import MJ Rhett who failed to make a field goal in all of his seven attempts. He still made eight points, all from the free throw line, and 10 boards.

Lines of the Game:
Arinze Onuaku (MER) - 27pts, 17rebs, 3asts, 1stl, 10/15 FGs
Mike Cortez (BLA) - 15pts, 4rebs, 3asts, 1 triple, 6/10 FGs

STAR HOTSHOTS over GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER, 127-100
Box Scores.

The streaking Star Hotshots pounced on the hobbled GlobalPort Batang Pier as they cruised to a 127-100 victory and notched a third straight win in the 2016 Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Ricardo Ratliffe posted 28 points and 13 rebounds while Allein Maliksi added 21 markers, including five three-pointers, as they lifted Star to 4-4. Mark Barroca also had a big game with 16 points and nine assists.

The Hotshots’ Big Three of James Yap, Mark Pingris and Peter June Simon also contributed in the win. Simon scored 13 points on 4-for-6 shooting, Yap added 12 markers while Pingris chipped in with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

GlobalPort (2-5) drew a big performance from import Shawn Taggart, who had 37 points and 11 rebounds, but that was far from enough on a game where they missed Terrence Romeo, the PBA’s leading scorer, and former No. 1 overall pick Stanley Pringle.

Paolo Taha scored 16 points for the Batang Pier while Joseph Yeo, who has been rumored to be on the trading block, added 14 markers.

Lines of the Game:
