The Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters flexed their muscle against Barako Bull, routing their quarterfinal opponents by 29 points, 105-76, in the PBA Philippine Cup playoffs at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City. Talk ‘N Text led by as many as 35 points in the lopsided contest as they moved into the second phase of the quarterfinals, where they will await the victor of the Barangay Ginebra-GlobalPort series. Rookies Matt Ganuelas-Rosser and Kevin Alas both shone brightly in their turn in the spotlight, pacing the Tropang Texters in the game. Ganuelas-Rosser scored a team-high 19 points on impeccable 8-for-10 shooting from the field, while Alas chipped in with 14 points, including three three-pointers, and a team-high four assists. The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings weathered a red-hot start from GlobalPort’s Terrence Romeo before crushing the Batang Pier, 95-78, to move on in the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals. Japeth Aguilar had 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 blocks, while fellow twin tower Greg Slaughter had a double-double of 11 points and 11 boards to lift Ginebra to the second phase of the quarterfinals. Veteran star Mark Caguioa added 15 points and Mac Baracael 10 for Ginebra. The Kings, who held a twice-to-beat advantage against GlobalPort, will face the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters in a knockout game for the chance to enter the semifinals. GlobalPort looked to be in top form early, behind the stellar play of Romeo. The hotshot guard scored 12 points in the first quarter on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting clip as he led the Batang Pier to an eight-point lead, 23-15, at the end of the opening 12 minutes. But it didn’t take very long before Ginebra turned the game around. Slaughter and Joseph Yeo combined to score all of the Kings’ points in a 13-4 run to open the second period that swung the advantage over to their side. Romeo ended up with 21 points, while rookie sensation Stanley Pringle tallied 26 markers. Returning guard Sol Mercado added 9 points in 22 minutes of play.

Line of the Game: Japeth Aguilar - 19pts, 8rebs, 6blks, 1ast, 1stl, 7/11 FGs.
