2013 PBA Midseason Awards

We are pretty much at the midpoint of the 2012-2013 PBA season, and  I thought it would be interesting to look at which players have been doing really well – well enough to be in the running for the conference and end-of-season awards as well as some other extra citations.

Note: My picks for midseason achievers are all generally based on player stats as of March 13, 2013. All these stats are from PBA-Online.net.

2013 Commish Cup Citations: Each position-specific citation is named after one of the PBA’s all-time best in that position

El Presidente:  Japeth Aguilar (GLO) – 12.5ppg, 8.0rpg, 2.1bpg, 32.7 EFF
All time highs in points, blocks, and rebounds thanks to career-high minutes played? Sure looks like it.

Japeth may have missed the Philippine Cup, but
his current performance has really made him
a bona fide star.

The Captain: Joe Devance (SMC) – 9.4ppg, 6.3rpg, 3.4apg, 49.2 FG%, 27.4 EFF
Despite having towering imports left and right, Devance has managed to put up very respectable numbers at the 4 spot.

The Skywalker: Danny Seigle (BAR) – 11.9ppg, 3.8rpg, 58.7 FG%, 27.3 EFF
Are we seeing a renaissance of Dynamite Danny?

The Triggerman: Mark Caguioa (GIN) – 22.3ppg, 4.8rpg, 3.4apg, 1.1spg, 39.0 EFF
The reigning MVP is still mighty valuable.

The Big J: Sol Mercado (GLO) – 14.1ppg, 9.1apg, 4.1rpg, 31.9 EFF
The Sol Train doesn’t seem to be missing a beat with his new team.

The Norman Black: Eric Dawson (MER) – 25.7ppg, 16.1rpg, 2.7bpg, 2.6spg, 55.7 EFF
The Bolts aren’t the best team out there, but they sure have the most productive center.

Super Scorer: Gary David (GLO) – 23.1ppg
El Granada remains as explosive as ever.

King of Rebounds: Calvin Abueva (ALA) – 8.1rpg
The Beast is an undersized rebounding nightmare for all but the Aces.

Pass Master: Chris Ross (MER) – 9.4apg
He’s no Sol Mercado, but one cannot deny that Ross has really settled into his role as Meralco’s primary playmaker.

Thief in the Night: LA Tenorio (GIN) – 2.7spg
Tenorio isn’t having the best of times on the offensive end, but he continues to flourish on defense.

Sultan of Swat: Japeth Aguilar (GLO) – 2.1bpg
Looks like Japeth’s hops are good for more than just big time dunks.

Ballistic Bomber: Sunday Salvacion (MER) – 71.4 3pt% and 5 threes per game
All his opponents are saying the same thing – Sunday bloody Sunday!

Okay, now for the REALLY fun stuff. If the season ended today, these guys would win:
