The team known to make a living down the stretch conked out and handed over the twice-to-beat edge to their foes. The Golden Stags ate up the Blue Eagles’ 12-point fourth quarter lead to scrape by and assure themselves of the coveted twice-to-beat advantage in the Finals of the PCCL.

Calvin “The Beast” Abueva buoyed the San Sebastian comeback, finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Big man Ian Sangalang backstopped Abueva with 18 markers of his own. What makes this conquest of Ateneo much sweeter for coach Topex Robinson and the Stags is that ace shooter Ronald Pascual didn’t even need to play. The bad thing, however, is that they received news that Pascual’s injury, which he sustained in their game against the San Beda Red Lions two days ago, is a confirmed ACL tear. Yikes.

It seemed like the Eagles would enjoy another double-digit victory after JP Erram hit a jumper to hike their lead to a dozen with about 6 and change to go, but the defense of Robinson’s crew tightened up and Ateneo managed just 4 points the rest of the way.

Kirk Long’s game-ending trifecta threatened the Stags’ victory party, but game officials deemed he still had the ball in his hands as time expired.

San Sebastian 70 – Abueva 20, Sangalang 18, Dela Cruz 11, Balacunag 8, del Rio 5, Miranda 4, Maiquez 2, Vitug 2, Ferrer 0
Ateneo 69 – Slaughter 16, Salva 13, Ravena 12, Long 9, Erram 8, Austria 6, Monfort 3, Chua 2, Golla 0, Gonzaga 0, Tingson 0
QS: 17-17, 32-32, 53-58, 70-69

The Red Lions are back in the hunt again. San Beda relied heavily on swingman Rome Dela Rosa’s offensive might to turn back a game University of Cebu side. Dela Rosa scored 25 points, had 6 rebounds and dished out 5 assists for a well-balanced statline. The Mendiolans are now tied for second with Ateneo and their game on Friday will decide who faces San Sebastian for all the marbles.

Junmar “The Kracken” Fajardo scored 24 points and grabbed 14 boards to lead the Webmasters, but the 6’10” prized find couldn’t will his underdog team to a miracle win.

The game was a nice display of perimeter firepower from both sides, as San Beda rebounded from an awful shooting performance against the Stags by hitting 18 treys offset the perceived size advantage of their Visayan counterparts.

San Beda 83 – Dela Rosa 25, Villahermosa 15, Amer 14, Solera 7, Caram 7, Lim 6, K. Pascual 4, Marcelo 2, Pontejos 2, Koga 1
UC 77 – Fajardo 24, Pao 17, Heruela 14, Ampoon 10, Bercede 7, Mohammad 5, Batino 0, Aranas 0, Auditor 0
QS: 20-22, 36-35, 57-56, 83-77
