The Games that Play Us: No Chance

The Red Warriors were hounded and pounded from the word go.

AdU Soaring Falcons over the UE Red Warriors, 85-54

One can only hope that the Red Warriors are viewing this season as a learning experience. Faith and hope aside, it’d be unrealistic for UE to think they have a chance of clinching a Final Four berth this year. I’m not even sure they can win a single game. The gap in talent, experience and savvy is just too wide for them to bridge it in a few months. Heck, if they retain their core, they might not even make much noise next year either.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome the new doormats of the UAAP.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

The Warriors were 0-4 coming into this game. They needed a spark. If they would be able to duplicate their 1st quarter results against FEU, then perhaps they wouldn’t squander any mid-to-late game opportunities at an upset.

But the Adamson Falcons didn’t even give them a chance. No chance.

Alez Nuyles continued scoring well for the Falcons.

Adamson busted the gates open with an 11-0 run, and, to be blunt about it, the moment Alex Nuyles sliced thru the baseline for a deep underhand lay-up that gave the Falcons a 4-0 lead, I kinda felt the game was done. That single play showed me that Adamson was still in full-steam-ahead mode, and that UE, no matter what platitudes coach Jerry Codiñera preaches to them, just isn’t good enough to win this game.

Just take a look at these numbers:

Rebounds: 44-36 AdU
Assists: 20-10 AdU
Steals: 10-3 AdU
Blocks: 4-2 AdU
FG%: 46%-36% AdU
3PT%: 28%-18% AdU
Difference between the Smart NBA All-Stars and the PBA All-Stars: 26 points
Difference between the Smart NBA All-Stars and Smart-Gilas Pilipinas: 9 points
Difference between the Adamson Falcons and UE Red Warriors: 31 points

Jan Colina and the rest of Adamson just outclassed UE.

The only way these UE Red Warriors can win is if they move down to the juniors division, and maybe even then the DLSZ Junior Archers or the AdMU Blue Eaglets can give them a run for their money.

But in Season 74? In the seniors division? No chance.

What to write about the Adamson Falcons? They’re still on. On fire. On target. On their way to a Final Four berth for sure. And if they stay on-track, NU shouldn’t be a problem on Sunday.

Lester Alvarez regained his shooting form in disposing
the Red Warriors.
